Johnson & Daly provides local and long-distance movers in Concord, CA for single-family homes, apartments, condos, and offices. We are a full-service Concord moving company, and packing, storage, piano work, and heavy item moving all sit under the same roof as the truck. We have been in business since 1979, and our Richmond yard is the closer of our two locations to Contra Costa County.

Our Moving Services in Concord

01

Residential Moving

Concord grew fast in the 1950s and 1960s, so a lot of our work here is single-story homes with a garage to stage out of and a straight carry to the truck. That changes the shape of the day compared with a stair job, and it usually means we can load in a tighter order. See how we run a house-to-house move.

02

Apartment Moving on the Monument and Ygnacio Corridors

The apartment stock along Monument Boulevard and Ygnacio Valley Road is older and tends to have shared lots rather than a dedicated loading bay. We check where the truck can legally sit and whether the complex requires a booked move-in slot before the day, because the distance from the tailgate to your door is what sets the hours.

03

Long-Distance and Interstate Moving

We move households out of Concord to other states and to the rest of California. Moves that leave the Bay Area are booked as a load window and a delivery window together, so you know both before you commit to a date.

04

Packing and Packing Supplies

We pack whole homes or single rooms, and we sell packing supplies if you would rather box up yourself. In a Concord summer the garage is the worst place to leave finished boxes, so we stage them inside and load the garage last. Here is what full and partial packing covers.

05

Piano, Hot Tub, and Heavy Item Moving

Pianos, hot tubs, safes, and gym equipment are scoped before the day rather than on the morning. Specialty item handling in the hillier east Concord neighborhoods often needs a gate panel taken off or a different route out of the yard, and that is a decision to make in advance.

06

Storage, Labor-Only, and Junk Removal

We hold goods in our own warehouse when the Concord sale closes before the new place does. We also take labor-only work when you have your own truck and want the loading done properly, and junk removal for the pile that builds in the garage once you start sorting.

07

Office and Commercial Moving

Downtown Concord has a dense cluster of offices within a short walk of the BART station, and we move them. Business relocations are run outside working hours, so the floor is empty while we are carrying.

Booking Around Concord Heat

July and August are the hottest months here, averaging highs in the mid-80s and running past 100 degrees whenever an excessive heat warning covers the inland valleys. Those are also the busiest moving months, which is an awkward pairing.

We start summer loads as early in the morning as the building allows, and a seven o’clock start in July is worth more than any other scheduling choice you make. Electronics, candles, and anything with a screen should ride in your own air-conditioned car rather than in the back of a truck sitting in the sun.

Curb Space, Permits, and Parking Districts in Concord

72 hours
Minimum notice before No Parking signs can take effect on a Concord street

Encroachment Permits and No Parking Signs

If the truck has to sit in the public right of way rather than in a legal parking space, the City of Concord requires an encroachment permit under Chapter 12.15 of the municipal code, applied for through the city online permit portal. No Parking signs may be posted only for the days of the actual work, and they have to go up at least 72 hours before the restriction takes effect. The permit or a copy of it stays on site while the work is happening.

Residential Permit Parking Areas

Parts of Concord are designated permit parking neighborhoods, where parking on the street needs a resident permit backed by proof of residency and a vehicle registered to that address. Guest parking permits are issued in those same designated areas, so if you are moving into one of these blocks, apply for one before the day for the cars that are not the moving truck. Applications are handled online through the city.

Getting a Truck In and Out of Concord

Concord sits where Highway 4, Interstate 680, and Highway 242 meet, which is good for a loaded truck and difficult at rush hour. The Ygnacio Valley Road approach to the freeway backs up hard in the afternoon, so we schedule the loaded leg outside that window wherever the dates allow.

Our Richmond base reaches Concord along Highway 4, which is also why a move from Concord into the Walnut Creek area or the Lamorinda side stays a local job rather than turning into a long-distance one. Downtown around Todos Santos Plaza is the one area worth planning around, since the plaza draws a farmers market and a free summer concert series that fill the surrounding curb space.
